Funding St Mary's

You may not know that a Vicar and the running costs of St Mary’s are not funded by the Church of England, or the Government. A conservative estimate of the costs of a full time Vicar and our Church are about £100,000 a year, every year.

Where does the money come from?

We, the local community and the congregation have to fund it all. At the moment a small number of committed churchgoers are covering less than 50% of the costs. Something needs to change.  To get the right Vicar for St Mary’s we need to show the Diocese that we can meet the costs of having one.
St Mary’s has always been open 365 days a year. There are services every Sunday, (see our Services page) as well as on all major festivals including Easter, Christmas, Harvest and Remembrance. Families and friends gather in St Mary’s for Baptisms, Marriages and Funerals throughout the year.  Salehurst Primary School staff and pupils come three times a year for their end of term services, and Marlborough House Vinehall School hold their annual Carol Service in the Church every December.
A Vicar plays such an important role in the community – visiting the sick, comforting the bereaved and supporting those in need. The Vicar leads a team of volunteers, but only a Vicar can baptise, marry and conduct funerals. After the tragic death of Rev Annette last year, we are without a vicar. To have a new vicar we need to show the Diocese that we can pay for one.

We need your help!. We are asking everyone in the community to support St Mary’s by making a contribution. If everyone gives a regular amount every year, however small (rather than a one-off donation), it will ensure that we have a Vicar and the Church will be there for all of us, whenever we need it, for the future.
